What do you look when you are buying a classic car?

There is a long list of things to look before you buy any classic car from individual or any classic car restoration shop.

First consideration would be how sound it is. If it’s severely corroded underneath, you’re going to have a lot of bodywork on your hands.

Second consideration is how complete the vehicle is. The more that’s missing, the more you’ll have to replace! An ideal auto restoration shops will never miss any things when the car is being restored.

Beyond those two things, a lot of expertise is needed, especially if the car you’re looking at is in great shape and is highly desirable with a price tag to match. Additionally there are more than a few ‘bogus’ cars out there. You need a classic car consignment specialist on that particular model to go over it with a fine-tooth comb and verify that it’s authentic and not a counterfeit.

Assume that the bodywork is done reasonably well and it is, in fact, safe to drive. That might make it a four or five thousand dollar car. But say that someone takes it a bit farther but if one puts a 360 truck motor into it since that’s a fairly common (for 2017) Ford FE block engine found in old Ford pickup trucks. Do whatever is needed to it, but then make it and the car it’s going in look like it’s a 428 Cobra Jet. That is what counterfeiting a car is. A Mustang expert can probably spot little details that won’t be correct, including the VIN code, and will be able to let you know that it’s not a genuine 428 Cobra Jet Mustang, but just a Mustang that’s had a big block of some kind put in it. If the car runs and drives well, that might make it a six or seven thousand dollar car barring anything extraordinarily fancy about it. It certainly will not be worth what a genuine 428 Cobra Jet Mustang would be worth! You do not want to be the one being tricked into paying the high price for a car that isn’t what it purports to be.

Any restored car is risky. It may look very, very good. However, a lot of sloppy stuff can be hidden by someone with a modicum of skill and you might find a lot of problems cropping up a couple years later that result from poor quality work that looked good enough to pass off at the time the car was sold. So that it is smart choice to buy classic car for well known and best classic car restoration shop or auto restoration shops.
